It is time to address the uncanny parallels between coronavirus and climate change (and no, not just because they both begin with the letter C).

If I hear the phrase “social distancing” one more time, I may never look at the news again. Physical distancing, yes. But socially, my communities are closer than ever before. In the past week, I have connected online with more friends, acquaintances and peers than in the past six months combined.

Last week, the UK declared an ‘environment and climate change emergency’, one of the key demands of Extinction Rebellion (XR), the campaign calling on the public to join their non-violent civil disobedience protests and pushing governments globally to prioritise environmental policies.
